In One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Kesey questions the mental health industry and its methods of treatment. He also challenges society's definition of sanity with the characters of Bromden and McMurphy. His characters and some events were influenced by drugs he took in college and his job at a hospital while he was writing.
